Well, here's a lifetime investment also. How could I cook without my stainless steel skillet? Mine has a steel handle that allows me to start my cooking in the stove and finish it in the oven. When choosing the one that fits you the most they're a lot of sizes and a huge range of prices, so the best is to pick the one that better adjusts to the family and budget.
In my opinion, they are easy to clean, resistant and quite beautiful. Usually, a good quality stainless steel skillet has a triple bottom, layers of copper and aluminium, which permits conserving better and longer high temperatures. It has the great advantage of not transmitting smell or taste from different food. And for sure they are durable objects, that do not rust or stain.
In my case, I chose one with a lid, that allows me to either fry or stew, and also it is the best way to sear meat.
